On Thursday, 26th June, 2025 Joe Stewart’s 3rd XI enjoyed success in the Final of the Arthur Sanders Cup, which was played at Darlington, when they overcame a very strong Marton side by 6 wickets.
Marton won the toss and chose to bat first. They made 137 for 7 from their allocated 20 overs. Izhran Hussain was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 20 off 4 overs. A wicket each for Messrs Curtis and Prosser Senior, with Harry Griffin taking 2 for 23 off 4 overs.
In response, Prosser Senior made 37 from 31 balls, with Ben Scott scoring 20 runs. However, it was Sam Sanger who played an excellent match winning innings coming in at Number 3, (with nine on the scoreboard), to help the 3rd XI achieve their target with two overs to spare! Sam scored 52 runs from 37 balls, which included five fours and a solitary six.
Alan Jackson, Chair of Hartlepool Cricket Club, remarked : “Another excellent cup final result for Hartlepool Cricket Club in the space of eight days. I would like to congratulate Joe and his team for a great win. The 3rd XI are having a great season. They are currently second in the Sunday Premier League, 11 points behind Marton who head the table. On 6th July, 2025 they visit Marton. What an exciting fixture this will be! Marton will be wanting to extend the gap between them and ourselves. Hopefully, tonight’s win will act as great encouragement for the remainder of the 3rd XI league season”.
