The draw has been made for this Sunday’s (28 August) Ian Jackson Memorial Double Wicket Trophy at Park Drive.

Cricketers will come together to remember the Park Drive favourite who sadly passed away in 2016 following a battle with cancer.

Every year Hartlepool cricketers – both past and present - compete against each other in teams of two for the coveted trophy.

The 1st round draw is as follows:

J.Callahan & O.Martin v J.Vaughan & Jack Wilson
J.Richardson & C.Hope v J.Tribbick & D.Peek
C.Scorer & I.Huzzain v A.Tebbett & K.Khasimai
T.Gavin & M.Baggs v B.Mallon & H.Wiles
B.Frank & M.Guffick v J.Piper & D.Smith
G.Relton & N.Doyle v J.Rathbone & A.Rae
G.Shaw & J.Stewart v M.Jackson & N.Watson
H.Smith & H.Henderson v BYE

Chris Cawson, the Club’s 1st team scorer and event organiser, said: “There are some really intriguing ties in the 1st Round and everyone is looking forward to the day.

“Ian Jackson was a very talented cricketer and so well liked by everyone at Park Drive so it is brilliant that we can remember him in this way.”

Ian’s wife, Louise said the family are looking forward to the event.

Louise said: “Park Drive was a big part of Ian’s life for many years and it’s lovely that his memory is living on.

“Ian would love the double wicket competition as it brings together people of all ages and cricketing abilities who compete against each other with lots of fun and laughter and a few drinks to round the day off.

“The family are really looking forward to this year’s event and Ian would be very proud to know that he is being remembered in this way.”

Hartlepool Cricket Club Chair, Alan Jackson, commented: “Ian was hugely popular at Park Drive and much loved by everyone who knew him.

“He came to the club at a young age and progressed from the Under 13s to be a fantastic 1st Team player for many years and also represented Durham and Cumberland senior sides at county level."

Umpiring will be Alan Jackson, former players Graham Shaw and Denis Skilbeck, club stalwart Philip Mole and league umpire Gavin Spalding.

Matches get underway at mid-day. Entry is free and spectators are welcome.
