...by highlighting the women & girls behind the club's success.

On #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the women and girls of the club and express our thanks for their dedication, hard work, and inspiration.

Whether it is playing, coaching, scoring, or unseen administrative work behind the scenes HCC is blessed with a number of amazing women and girls who all contribute to a burgeoning W&G Cricket section but impact on the club as a whole.

Susanne Wilkinson was rightly recognised with an OSCA for her role as secretary of the Senior Club for many years. Since stepping back from that role she has taken on the role of Treasurer for the Junior Section and is also a committee member for the North Yorkshire & South Durham Cricket League. Her tireless work behind the scenes is often unnoticed but never unappreciated.

Kaye Barlow served the Junior Club as Secretary for best part of a decade as well as acting as scorer for whichever teams her boys were playing (given the ability of Dom and Fin this was pretty much every Junior side at times). She continues to score for the Under 15s and Under 17s.

Coaching Women & Women Coaching
HCC is incredibly lucky to have three female coaches dedicated to increasing the number of girls playing cricket at the club and also improving the skills of girls who come along.

Aimee Scott started as an All Stars Activator but has since gone on to take a full coaching qualification. As well as coaching the girls, Aimee also plays for our Women's 1st XI where she can often be seen prowling the boundary.

Erin Bowman also started as an All Stars Activator but has progressed to running our Girls Dynamos section as well as being the Team manager for our Girls Under 11s. Erin is taking the next steps on her coaching journey in the coming weeks and has already started to support our Girls Under 13s.

Kathryn Semple is an inspiration. Her enthusiasm for the game and the girls who play is infectious, bringing joy to all the girls she coaches and developing their skills without thee players realising (often through the use of Pringles). As well as being a coach, Kathryn is the clubs W&G Representative and a Safeguarding Officer.

It is our players who are proving to be the real stars with the Girls Under 13s and Girls Under 15s being some of the most successful teams within the whole club in recent times. On top of that we have a number of Girls in Durham County squads - Bella S, Emily S, Emily M, Evie S, Tilly P, Amy H, and Polly C have all been selected for the 2023 season.

Finally we want to thank the mums, grandmas, nannas, aunties etc. who support our players across the entire club - from getting them to games and training, ensuring they have the correct kit, or holding impromptu training sessions with them in the garden.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
