The Under 9s Softball Tournament, which was held at Park Drive on Sunday, 21st August, 2022, was blessed with good weather and saw a new winner’s name added to the Shield, thereby denying Stockton Cricket Club a hat trick a tournament wins.

A total of eight teams took part in the Softball Tournament. The final standings after the group matches were as follows, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals, :-

Group 1 :
Peterlee;
Seaton Carew;
Stockton Stars; and
Hartlepool Stags.

Group 2:
Hartlepool Cobras;
Seaham Park;
Stockton Diamonds; and
Hartlepool Silverbacks.

Peterlee overcame Seaham Park in semi-final 1, while Hartlepool Cobras beat Seaton Carew in the second semi-final.

David JB Thompson, (Junior Chair), said : “It was fantastic to see so many children playing in our external softball tournament. Park Drive looked as fantastic as ever! It was the third time our tournament has been held. There were about 60 children in attendance. I’d like to thank Seaham Park and Seaton Carew for joining the tournament late after intended participants dropped out at the last minute. Great cricket skills were on show, with plenty of runs scored and wickets taken! It was raining sixes at one stage! Despite a great display by Hartlepool Cobras, Peterlee were the deserved winners of the final and the Under 9s Softball Tournament. Peterlee posted a net score of 58 runs, while “the Cobras” posted 24. Many congratulations to Peterlee and I look forward to them defending their title in 2023!”.
