This Softball Tournament at Newton Aycliffe is probably the Under 9s last competitive outing of the Summer. Unfortunately, the Tournament that was scheduled to take place at Willington Cricket Club in September, 2019 isn’t going ahead.

The following two Teams have been selected, :-

The Stags : who will play against Aycliffe Tigers; Stockton Strikers; and Seaton Carew :

Sam Blakey (C);
Noah Thompson;
Finlay Coverdale;
Callan Coverdale;
Benjamin Smith; and
Bertie Allen.

The Silverbacks : who will play against Aycliffe Master Blasters; Stockton Swifts; and Sedgefield Girls :

Mehdi Ali (C);
Matthew Curtis;
James Hawkins;
Emily Sirs;
Benjamin Snowball; and
Jamie McHugh.

Due to a Team having dropped out of the Tournament, Harry Dickson, Isabella Sirs and Naomi Parkes are to play in a joint Newton Aycliffe side, the name of which is yet to be confirmed. Thanks to Adam Gittins of Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club for having contacted us to see if we had some additional players to create a “joint team”!

Fingers crossed that all of our young cricketers have an excellent day at Newton Aycliffe, with some excellent performances being delivered! The forecast looks to be dry, but a little blustery!

Finally, the Tournament marks a special occasion for Sam, Benjamin Smith, Mehdi and Harry. This will be their final Softball Tournament at the Under 9 age level. With them moving into academic Year 5 in September, 2019, they’ll progress to the Under 11s age group in 2020 under the guidance of Chris Smith. Consequently, it’s hoped that they mark their final representative matches at Under 9 level will some memorable performances.
